As a first-time mom, I never had a definite understanding of the things I needed to buy for my baby. So what I did was do some research and ask other moms to give me an idea of what to buy. But like all other new moms, there are things that made us regret that we have bought in the first place.
So, I have listed some of the things I regret buying.
1. Bathtub with temperature sensor.
This is the first on my list as this is the first product that got me disappointed.

Don’t get me wrong, we have used this product until my baby is already 14 months or when she started walking and climbing. And because of that, we decided to stop using it as it is already getting a bit dangerous for her since she can already get out of it.
Although I said I regretted buying it but there are also some features of this product that we liked.
Pros:
- It is collapsible , so it is space saving when you tidy it up
- It has a drain that makes it easier to change water or discard water.
- The tub itself was durable.
So what was wrong with this?
1. The temperature sensor
When we first got the product, we were quite disappointed about the temperature sensor. It was so short and was not able to reach the water. Thus, it was not able to give the right temperature. As new parents that we were, we still ended up using a thermometer to measure the temperature as we were scared that we might burn our new baby’s skin.
Also, after a few months, the temperature sensor got damaged.
2. It gets mouldy
This is the worst thing that I don’t like about this product. It gets mouldy no matter how you clean it after bathing the baby. So you have to end up cleaning it again before you use it.
The worst is its cushion because the mould is so hard to remove. I have to soak it every week with vinegar and a little bleach for the mould to disappear. The tub part needs to be sprayed with mould remover as well as it gets moulds too.

But after doing this, you need to make sure that all parts have been washed again by soap and rinse well so that there won’t be any remaining chemicals on it as it might cause harm on baby’s skin.
3. I did mention durability as a pro of this product. Yes, the tub was durable, but the legs were a little bit flimsy. I don’t blame it so much, as most of the foldable products always have this issue.
Overall…
We have used this product for 14 months and can still be used except for the cushion as it needs to be deep cleaned again due to moulds.
The reason why I didn’t return it in the first place was because my baby loves or was very comfortable bathing while lying on the cushion, but it’s only downside was it gets moulds easily.
2. Travel Cot/rocker
So we bought this product because some of my colleagues advised that it would be easier if we needed to have a safe place to put the baby in the living room during the day.
That is why we decided to buy this…

We chose to buy this travel cot as it can also be a rocker, which we thought would help the baby sleep easily during the day.
But… we were wrong. Our baby is not so fond of this. The moment you put her here, she would then wake up after 5 minutes, and the rocker did not help, as well as it only made her even cry more or make her wake up even faster.
Although it was not the travel cot/rocker’s fault because the product itself was well built. Though the foam/mattress was thin, I think it was made like that to make it easier to fold for travel.
So the only reason why I regret buying this is because we haven’t used it much. I think we only used it 5 times, then eventually folded it and kept it away.
I hope that if someday we can have a second baby, then we might be able to use it to its full potential.
3. Baby lounger/ baby nest pod

So… because we have a baby who’s very difficult to put on the cot to sleep, I tried some research by joining mom groups and forums. I asked some experienced moms for their opinions and suggestions. Then some of them mentioned that some babies do not like to be in a very big empty space like their cot, and some suggested using a baby nest pod to keep their space a bit smaller.
But then again, our beloved baby still does not like the nest pod, and I notice that it was not even safe for her to be in the nest pod. The reason is that despite the fact that she was still a few months old, she always goes to her side to sleep even if we put her on her back. The health visitor at that time said it might be because of her head shape.
I think she was 2 months at the time we bought this. She was the kind of baby that lies on her side when she sleeps.
We tried so hard to train her to sleep on her back, but she always went back to lying on her side with her face on her side as well. This position is not safe for her when using the nest pod as sometimes she places her face right at the corner of nest pod, and we are very anxious every time she does this.
Also, it was not effective for her because she still does not like sleeping in her cot even with the nest pod on.
I think we only used the nest pod 5 times for sleeping and eventually kept it.
Then I just got it back out now that she’s walking and used the nest pod as a little bed in the lounge area when she’s playing.
4. Electric Baby nasal Aspirator

This is the product that I regret buying the most.
I was quite excited with this product when I first got it because it has a little music and light on.
It did work fine when we used it the first time the suctioning was good but not enough to get all the secretions in baby’s nose but it was easy to use and quick which is nice if you have a crying and struggling baby wanting to move her head to the side as she does not want her nose to be touched.
However, it did not last long. It broke down after several days of continuous use. The button won’t work or it would work and you won’t be able to press it to stop again. So we just let it run through the night and bought a manual suction the next day. The manual suction lasts until present, and we love it.
5. Beanie Hats and mittens

I was actually looking forward to my baby wearing this. But sad to say, she never liked wearing hats or headbands and mittens.
Hats would always get removed from her head, and the mittens would always be all over the place, and the next time, you only have one pair.
The only reason for regretting buying this is the fact that she only used it once or twice and never used it again. I hope for my next baby to love hats and headbands.
So these are some of the products I wish I did not buy, or I should have chosen a better brand. Well, like all the other moms out there, I guess having to buy a product for a baby is sometimes a trial and error thingy. You will never know it’s good until you use it.
